Divided..???

 Divided???

They say we are divided

but I think most would agree

We don't think being sick or poor is criminality.

We don't think social services matter less than elon's toys,

We need homes for the homeless

Hope for future girls and boys.

And if we had a party,

just some fun for joyful's sake,

We would not go dancing roughshod

over someone else's wake.

&, tho' divisions there are many

if you scroll the metaverse,

Some of us know there can be better times

and don't want to make it worse.

Sometimes, when I'm doing brilliant....

Sometimes, when I’m doing brilliant…..

Sometimes, when I’m doing brilliant,

Moving, changing, stirring the pot,

Well, some would say, stirring the pot too deeply,

All the grime comes off the bottom,

Scraping the barrel for negative discouragements,

And, there they are!

Burnt on and crusty,

Loosening what was once encrusted,

The “You can’t”, “How dare you?”

“This won’t last…”   “They think you’re brilliant now, but what when they find out about…”

And , sometimes, this is enough to stop me

To dim my light and dilute my brilliant darkness,

To draw a curtain of shame over the next magnificent, or, even, just gently lovely, act I may be about to commit to, perform or even just consider….

But, lately, it really isn’t clear who’s gonna win this battle.

Will it be doubt and shame

in the traditional corner,

the defending champions?

Or will it be this plucky young newcomer,

Self-belief?

In Lieu of wise words from Sue Gray!

It isn’t just the cheese and wine
 It isn’t just the lies.
It’s the way our human labours
are sold off before our eyes.

It’s the way your layers of privilege,
So wrapped around your soul,
Mean you just can’t feel the pain you cause
When you wield power without control.

It’s the way you celebrate your crimes,
The way you know you’ll never pay
It isn’t just about a cake
It isn’t just one day.

 It’s the stealthy and insidious,
The bold as brass charade,
It’s the way you celebrate your wins
At cost of others, every day.

Beyond the plastic pumpkins, flailing bed sheet ghosts, made-in-China polyester victim costumes, skeletons, zombie masks & strings of Led-lit glittering skulls... take a moment to stop and remember those who went before us....

This is not a dash for American candy....

This is the beginning of our descent into the dark months of the year....

The shedding of leaves, the harvesting of fruits and produce... it is a stripping back to the bones of the matter... a time to notice and honour our roots.

Ancestors who went before us....

Love and labours given so that our lives could get born.... … flourish, thrive, strive... .. and lay down paths for those who come after...

we are not separate from the eco system..

we are not separate from the web of lives....

Deep in your gut, your heart, your sinews, who do you have to thank?

Who do you need to honour?..

What will you carry through the dark months? Digging deeper, preserving, strengthening, brightening with the fire that burns within...??

What do you carry...???

Whose legacies do you bring forward, into the present....

and what Dreams.. do you plant.. feed and nurture..

For, even in the darkest times, ...We tend the fire, We feed the visions, We build the bonds... and we Dream... we remember... we fan the flames of a better future... We stand for truth and justice.. We weave a soft and tenacious resilience... we sing the songs silently within... but still we sing them... We feed the fire... we share the love... &, even when despair knocks at our door, ...We say “No thank you. We've had enough of you thanks very much...& We have dreams to nurture, We have lives that matter, we have Love to empower, enrich and nourish.” We're busy, even when we're sleeping.. we're busy... We have home-made courage and a longer history than you think we remember..

We are the weavers of a better future... & We refuse to give in......
